Our new clubhouse is taking shape
This project marks a significant step in enhancing our facilities to better serve our members and the community. The new design brings improved accessibility and a modern space for training, events and social gatherings.

From idea to opening day
A new home for Sorrento SLSC
Just before COVID, member Marc Clavin suggested it was time to talk about rebuilding. After more than 20 years of salt air and sea winds, the old clubrooms were deteriorating, space was limited and emergency equipment had to be stored offsite.
- Marc introduced the Beck family, whose generosity funded the initial consultancy work
- $3.5M secured from the State Government and $1M from the Mornington Peninsula Shire
- A Building Committee formed to work through design and approvals
Building plans approved
A huge night for the club. Members and supporters packed the Council meeting and cheered as our building plans were approved, clearing the way for the new clubhouse.
Builder appointed and permit granted
- McColl Smith Projects formally appointed as builder
- First-stage building permit granted after a detailed design review
- Temporary patrol room and storage set up so lifesaving continued all summer
- Endangered indigenous flora carefully salvaged and relocated before site works began
The old clubhouse comes down
Demolition began, clearing the way for the new building. The roof and walls of the old clubrooms were carefully taken down and removed from the foreshore site.
Two storeys rise above the beach
The structure is up. The ground floor, upper deck and roof are in place, and windows are installed across both levels, facing out to the water.
Cladding outside, finishes inside
- Timber-look cladding and stone detailing going on around the lookout tower
- Upstairs, the vaulted club room has its acoustic ceiling and pendant lights
- Plastering and fit-out underway through the building
Opening day
We're on track to open the doors in December. Social memberships are available now, so you can be part of the new clubhouse from the very start.
