2026/2027 season

A new era for the Salties

The 2026/27 season marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Sorrento Salties. After years of planning, we're expecting to move into our brand new clubhouse in November — an incredible new home for our youth members to train, connect and grow.

This season is packed with opportunities for members aged 13–18: Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallion training, leadership development, surf skills, camps, social events and volunteering. Whether your goal is to become a qualified lifesaver, build your confidence, or simply spend time with great mates, the Salties is the place to be.

Our new clubhouse will be more than a base by the beach. It will be a place where young people learn, lead and build lifelong friendships while becoming active members of the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club community.

Thank you to all our members, families, coaches and volunteers for your ongoing support. Together, we're building the next generation of lifesavers and leaders.

The program

About the Salties

Designed for 13–18 year olds, it's the mix of surf, adventure and mates. Catch waves, earn your SRC or Bronze Medallion, patrol alongside experienced lifesavers, head away on camp, or just hang out with friends. The Salties train in the surf at Sorrento Back Beach, developing real-world lifesaving skills in one of Australia's most iconic beach environments.

Skills & awards

Training

Regular sessions across surf rescue technique, first aid, CPR, board and tube rescue, IRB operations, fitness and patrol scenarios. As members progress, they're encouraged into further qualifications — Bronze Medallion, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques, First Aid, IRB Crew and Driver awards, and specialist courses.

Giving back

Volunteering

Volunteering is at the heart of Surf Life Saving. Through patrols, water safety for Nippers, Nippers coaching, fundraising and club events, youth members build confidence, leadership and teamwork. Members are supported to take on more responsibility, mentor younger members, and become the club's next generation of leaders.

Camps

Leadership camps build confidence, teamwork and communication while connecting members with clubs across Victoria. We actively encourage members into the camps run by Life Saving Victoria — and with the new clubhouse complete, we plan to run our own Salties camps and training weekends from our own facilities.

Camp opportunities

Beyond the club

Where the Salties can take you

Sorrento is one club in a movement that runs the length of the Victorian coast. Life Saving Victoria runs youth development programs that bring members together from clubs right across the state — and one of the reasons the Salties exists is to make sure our young members know these opportunities are there, and to back them when they put their hand up.

These programs are where you meet like-minded people from other clubs, see the full range of pathways in lifesaving, and find the part of it that's yours.
